Background Information:

At the April 4, 2011 Board meeting, I made, and the Board approved, the recommendation of accepting “the low bids submitted by J. C. Educational in the amount of $62,654.94 and the low bids submitted by School Specialty in the amount of $23,464.28” for furniture at the new career technologies facilities. After reviewing the bids one final time prior to issuing purchase orders, the recommendation should have included the low bid submitted by Howard Happy for $455 for item number 1. Since the bid award for Howard Happy is actually below the bid limit of $10,000, we have issued a purchase order for $4,550 for ten (10) wood desks. Therefore, the corrected recommendation is to accept the low bids submitted by J. C. Educational in the amount of $58,104.94, the low bids submitted by School Specialty in the amount of $23,464.28, and the low bid submitted by Howard Happy in the amount of $4,550. We have contacted the representative from J. C. Educational and the company is aware of the mistake and had no complaints. The bid tabulation is attached for your reference.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the corrected recommendation for furniture bids for Obion County Central and South Fulton High Schools career technology additions as set forth above.
